Bawdy Beer Bars

There are a few sleazy go-go bars and a multitude of beer bars on Thep Phraya Road (the road connecting Pattaya and Jomtien). The densest concentration can be found in a small shophouse development called the Jomtien Complex. More beer bars still are scattered along the north of the beach front parade and up many of the soi's adjoining it.

These are places to befriend a bar girl, swig beers, swap life stories, get whipped at pool and Connect 4. The bar Country Road 3 (Thap Phraya Road) is a well-known favourite. Of course, if you get along with your host you can always make the leap to debauched pursuits, but most girls here and elsewhere are happy to converse without harassing you. Compared to up the road in Pattaya Beach though, these places are as relaxed as Walking Street's establishments are wild. 

Gay, Glitz and Glam

The gay contingent should head for Jomtien Complex (Thep Phraya Road), wherein lies some gay bars and a well-known transvestite show called Star-Treff Travestie. Dongtan Beach has a few "gay friendly" beer bars and is also well-known as a gay 'cruising' area. For anybody craving glitz and glam there's also Alangkarn, a Las Vegas-type show that's one of Pattaya's most extravagant attractions.

Shows begin every evening at 20:45, and there are optional dinners available.

Jomtien's Refined Joys

Alternatively, you can go relatively refined. Try a delicious seafood supper from a seafront table lit by oil lamp whilst reclining on the beach, or do the same at one of many Beach Road seafood shacks.

Patronise one of the many expatriot-run restaurant-cum-bars that bring their owner's native cuisine, booze and blaring music (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Holland or Britain) to this stretch of shoreline. Or try one of the restaurants listed in our Jomtien Dining section.
